This is a great place to stay. From the moment I walked in I felt that I was on holiday but at the same time it was like coming home. The Presbytère is in the tiny, quiet village of Bugarach in the heart of Cathar Country in Languedoc-Roussillon, south-west France. The B&B is nestled at the foot of the Pic de Bugarach, the highest mountain in the Corbières and makes a great base for walking and climbing as well as visiting the Cathar castles, museums, Carcassonne and much more. Sander and Rommie, the Dutch hosts, are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. The room was beautiful with antique furniture, decorated stylishly with Rommie's great attention to detail. Breakfast was delicious - a continental style breakfast with crusty bread, home-made jam, yogurt, and just when we thought we'd finished out came a plate of freshly-baked madeleine cakes. For anyone staying here the evening meal is a must - Sander, a trained chef, makes the most amazing four-course meal, many of the ingredients coming from Rommie's vegetable garden. Some good local wines are also on offer.

Vignanello is a 20-minute car trip away from the Viterbo Thermal spas and less than an hour from Rome. From here you can easily reach Bagnaia, Orte, Bomarzo, Marta as well as the lakes of Vico and Bolsena. It is situated near to the motorway, to the regions of Tuscany and Umbria and this makes it an ideal starting point for longer-distance excursions. Sofa bed in the living room. The substantial breakfast and dinner are served in the ex-cellar: an extremely characteristic environment dug out of the tufa stone surroundings.
